Future planned work
We’re planning future work to improve the reliability and quality of power supply for our customers in the Tīnui and East Coast community. You’ll find below some of the upcoming work that is planned.
Vegetation management
A planned outage on the Castlepoint feeder will be required later in 2024 to enable arborists to safely cut back vegetation growing near power lines. Customers affected by the planned outage will be notified by their electricity retailers closer to the time.
Power quality meters
Power quality meters are to be installed at the Tīnui substation for us to monitor the quality of the power on the feeders (sections of lines) that connect our customers to that substation. This information will be used by our planners to decide what work should be carried out in your area in the future.
Line fault indicators
A project for Castlepoint and Mataikona areas is planned during the 2025-26 financial year (FY26) for seven sets of line fault indicators to be installed on the Castlepoint feeder. These sensors help our team find faults faster, reducing power restoration times following an outage.
Masterton-Castlepoint Rd (Castlepoint feeder) reconstruction
Work is planned for 2025 to renew and modernise a section of electricity network on Masterton-Castlepoint Rd to improve the reliability and security of power supply. It is expected that the work will include replacing 10 power poles, just over 2km of conductor and 174 cross arms, including all the insulators.
Tīnui Valley Rd (Castlepoint feeder) reconstruction
Work is planned for 2028 to replace an estimated eight power poles, 144 crossarms, 2.5km of conductor and four transformers on Tīnui Valley Rd.
