Replant for Tomorrow - Western Bay of Plenty
In spring 2024, thousands of trees were planted in Katikati and Kōpūrererua Valley as part of Powerco’s Replant for Tomorrow Fund.
With our support, Project Parore planted more than 3,300 trees – a mix of manuka, kanuka, karata, ti kouka, kohuhu, makomako and karamu – in two locations, totalling 1.25 hectares, in the Katikati area. Project Parore champions sustainable land management practice, water quality improvement and the restoration of native ecosystems on both public and private land across Western Bay of Plenty.
Meanwhile, close to 150 people turned out to help plant 4,500 plants in Kōpūrererua Valley. During the past two decades, Tauranga Rotary clubs, in partnership with Tauranga City Council, Ngāi Tamarāwaho, the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and dedicated community members, have been transforming this historic 364ha wetland.
Volunteers from our Tauranga office were on hand helping plant at both events.
In June 2023, we teamed up with Tauranga City Council to plant over 1,700 trees in the Gordon Carmichael Reserve. 22 Volunteers from our Tauranga office and TCC parks team worked together to plant a variety of shrubs and small trees for the insects, fish and tuna (eels) that live in the reserve and for the community who visit it. This planting was a part of a larger project being delivered by the Tauranga City Council to plant and restore this special ecological area over the next 10 years
