Community partnership update
Replant for Tomorrow - South Waikato
The Replant South Waikato initiative is part of our partnership with the Pokaiwhenua Catchment Group to restore and enhance the local environment, benefiting both the community and the ecosystem. This effort focuses on improving water quality and biodiversity in the Pokaiwhenua Stream and its surrounding catchment area, including Duxfield Reserve.
Over the past three years, we’ve been actively involved in tree planting to support these environmental goals. In 2022, nearly 100 locals, farmers, school kids, and representatives from organizations like South Waikato District Council, Downer, Farmlands, Fonterra, and Powerco teamed up to plant 4,500 trees in just two hours at Duxfield Reserve.
In 2023, our team from the Tauranga office joined the effort, planting an additional 2,000 trees. So far, three successful plantings have been completed in the area, contributing a total of 13,500 trees to the reserve. These plantings not only help restore the local ecosystem but also provide a hands-on opportunity to educate the community, especially school children, about environmental protection.
Given Powerco projects in the area, such as the new 110kv transmission line between Arapuni and Putāruru, we wanted to show our support for our South Waikato community who are passionate about their local environment.
