Cyclone Gabrielle customer restoration

Thursday, February 23, 2023

Powerco Head of Network Operations, Caz Haydon, would like to once again thank all customers impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle, as Powerco wraps up its restoration work.

“In less than a week, Cyclone Gabrielle impacted more than 100,000 customers on our network – 48,000 customers at its peak. It has taken considerable time and effort to repair all the damage and reconnect customers. Much of this repair work is still ongoing, with entire sections of our electricity network requiring a rebuild.

“We cannot thank our customers enough for your patience and understanding throughout this process, especially those who were waiting to be reconnected for long periods. Your support and kindness means a lot, especially to our crews on the ground, many of whom were working into the evenings in difficult conditions.

“We’ve been working hard to ensure all impacted customers have either been reconnected onto our network or, if repairs are still underway, have some form of generation in the interim. We’d hate to think that someone is waiting to be reconnected and the outage hasn’t been reported, so if you are without power, please report it through our website, or by contacting your retailer, as a matter of urgency.”

Caz Haydon says with the cyclone restoration nearing the end, Powerco will continue with its regular work schedule, including planned maintenance works and projects.

Please note: Powerco’s online outage map no longer reflects Powerco’s cyclone recovery situation, as it indicates all live outages, including ones not related to the cyclone as well as scheduled planned outages.
