Replant for Tomorrow Wairarapa

Powerco has teamed up with Wairarapa arborists, Arb Innovations, to bring Replant for Tomorrow to Greytown.

Powerco and Arb Innovations worked with the Greytown Community Board and Greytown Tree Action Group to identify sites around town that would benefit from this initiative. The first planting happened to celebrate Arbor Day 2021, with the team currently working together to identify further sites that will benefit this planting season.

At Powerco, we’re committed to delivering a safe and reliable power supply to our customers. This means thousands of trees must be removed from around our power poles and lines each year. The Replant for Tomorrow initiative was created to help off-set that tree removal work to help keep the power lines clear.

Trees cause close to a quarter of all power cuts across Powerco’s network. When overgrown, they interfere with power lines and make it difficult for crews to restore power to our communities. The good news is most of these outages are avoidable, simply by planting trees away from power lines, choosing appropriate-sized tree species and ensuring vegetation is regularly maintained by an approved contractor.

The project so far

Arbor Day 2021
The first planting day saw 30 trees planted at O’Connor’s Bush at Greytown Memorial Park. Two larger established trees were planted near the entrance to Greytown Cemetery.
