Yacht move causes power disruptions

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

The transportation of a new pleasure yacht from Palmerston North to Foxton Beach has caused a number of power outages to residents along the route.

Powerco’s Network Operations manager Phil Marsh said low voltage lines taken down to clear the way for the yacht to pass were still being reconnected.

“The night-time operation took the people moving the vessel longer than anticipated,” he said.

“The work required Powerco contractors to disconnect power lines crossing roads and resulted in some customers experiencing an extended power outage.”

“We apologise for this inconvenience and have called in extra faultmen from Masterton and Whanganui to help with the restoration process. Anyone without power should log their fault through their retailer to ensure every customer is reconnected.”

He urged drivers to be aware of traffic management operations along the State Highway route from Palmerston North via Sanson to Foxton Beach.

“This is a very busy section of highway so we urge drivers to take care if they see linesmen at work.”
