Lightning hits Powerco network

Tuesday, December 04, 2018

A flurry of lightning strikes caused outages across the Powerco network this morning.

Supply to customers in parts of Taranaki, Waikato and Manawatu were all affected as the lightning hit poles or transformers, Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh said.

“The volatile weather system caused damage in New Plymouth, Cambridge, Tokoroa and Marton as it crossed our network,” he said.

Crewmen were attending to all outages and it was hoped to have supply restored in all areas by mid-afternoon.

In New Plymouth about 40 residents are without power in the Ferndale suburb, as were customers in Cambridge (168), Tokoroa (60) and Marton (70).
